Insurance Advice FAQs

Most people have a few questions before getting started.

Here are the ones we’re asked most often. If you don’t see yours here, just get in touch.

Getting started

If you’ve got people who rely on your income, or debts that wouldn’t disappear if something happened to you, it’s worth looking at.

Most people come to us when something changes. A mortgage, a business, a family. That’s usually the right time to get professional advice.

We specialise in life insurance, income protection, total and permanent disability (TPD) and trauma cover. For business owners, we also advise on key person cover, buy/sell agreement cover and business expenses cover.

You can.

But personal insurance isn’t straightforward.

Policies can look similar, but the details underneath can change how they work when you need them.

Comparison sites focus on price and basic features. Going direct means choosing from one insurer.

We look at your situation first, compare properly across insurers and structure cover so it actually fits.

Then we handle the process and stay involved over time.

No. We only advise on personal insurance. Also note that we don’t do health insurance.

If you need general insurance, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.

The process

It starts with a conversation to understand your situation and what you’re trying to protect.

From there, we gather the information we need, do the research across insurers and come back to you with a recommendation that’s explained properly.

If you decide to go ahead, we handle the applications, underwriting and ongoing support.

It depends on your situation. A straightforward setup can take a few weeks. More complex situations, or anything involving medicals or business structures, can take longer. We’ll keep you updated the whole way through.

No.

We work with clients across Australia, so everything is done via phone or Zoom.

Forms are completed online and documents are signed electronically.

Yes. We know most of our clients are busy, so we’re flexible with timing. If evenings work better, that’s fine.

The costs

There’s an upfront cost for the research and written advice. The exact amount depends on your situation and how complex it is. We’ll let you know what to expect early, before you commit.

No. Once your cover is in place, you don’t pay us an ongoing fee.

Your premium goes to the insurer, and they pay us a small ongoing amount to look after your policy.

You can. But some people struggle to find the right cover.

Most either give up part way through or end up with cover that doesn’t quite fit.

There are a lot of moving parts, and it’s difficult to compare policies properly without technical knowledge of insurances..

Cover & decisions

That’s common. We’ll review what you’ve got and work out whether it still fits your situation or needs adjusting.

That’s very common.

Most people have some level of life and disability cover through their super fund, often without realising exactly what it includes.

Sometimes that cover is enough. Often it’s not.

We’ll review what you’ve already got and help you understand how it works, what it would actually pay in a claim and whether it fits your situation.

If it does, we’ll tell you. If it doesn’t, we’ll show you what needs to change.

We deal with this all the time. Before you apply, we’ll talk to insurers to understand what terms they’re likely to offer, so you’re not going in blind.
You come to us. We’ll guide you through the process and deal with the insurer on your behalf.
That’s expected. Most people’s situation changes over time. Income goes up, debts change, families grow, businesses evolve. Insurance isn’t something you set once and forget. We review your cover regularly and help you adjust it as your situation changes, so it continues to do what it’s meant to. If something changes in between reviews, you can just get in touch and we’ll work through what needs to be updated.

Fit

Individuals, families and business owners who want professional advice and ongoing support.

Most of our clients have financial responsibilities and want to make sure things are taken care of if something goes wrong.

If you need something immediate, short-term or purely transactional, we might not be the team for you. We work best with people looking for the right cover and a long-term relationship.

Still have a question?

Send us a message with a bit about your situation and we’ll come back to you. Even just “I want to chat about my insurance” is enough to get started.
